Michael Reed is Country Head of the Korean operation of Fidelity Worldwide Investment, Fidelity's international business entity outside of the Americas. He is responsible for Fidelity's overall Korea business, across both the retail and institutional channels and a member of Asia Management Committee. Before Joining Fidelity, Michael was based in Hong Kong whilst serving as Chief Executive Officer of Standard Life Investments (Asia) Limited. Michael has also worked for many years with Franklin Templeton Investments in Asia where he held several senior management positions, including Country Head and Chief Representative for their Korean operations. Michael has lived in Asia for more than 22 years and is an active member of the British community in Seoul.

I work within our commercial leasing part of the business. In essence my role is to provide real estate transaction advisory services for multinational firms in Korea. We work closely with established companies and new market entrants as well as Korean companies with overseas real estate requirements. I am also responsible for assisting the regional corporate services team in Hong Kong on various projects including implementing best practices and service tools in Korea. As the only expat member of staff in Seoul, my role also often spills over into assisting other branches of the business including research and investment.

Steve has over 24 years experience in waste and environmental, health and safety management in Europe and Asia. Steve first joined ERM in 1994 and has worked in both Hong Kong and Thailand before arriving in Korea in 2010.

Douglas Barrett is presently Head of Trade and Investment at the British Embassy in Seoul. He has spent the last 25 years working on Asia and Asia Pacific issues. Following postings in Manila and Islamabad, he was HM Consul in Mumbai from 1996 to 2000. He was a Commercial Officer and later Head of Trade and Investment in Shanghai from 2001 to2005. He then worked in private industry as Director for Asia Pacific at British Expertise, the UK’s premier trade organisation for the promotion of services. During his time at British Expertise Douglas organised and led six to eight trade missions a year to the Asia Pacific region, mostly to India and China.

He overseas the entire portfolio of British Council work in Korea which includes work in higher education, language teaching, qualifications, arts and design, climate change and social issues such as youth and community leadership.

I spent my first 9 years in Korea with KPMG Transaction Services and KPMG Corporate Finance, supporting international companies with M&A transactions and investments in Korea, and helping Korean companies with their investments abroad. Most recently I worked with an Australian company to secure over $1.5 billion in Korean investment into a large mining and infrastructure project. For the past year, I have been a relationship director with key KPMG Korea clients and establishing KPMG’s office in Mongolia.

Would be active in promoting closer ties with the Korean business community, and be an advocate for British education opportunities both in Korea, promoting British higher education to the Korean community, especially, as this solidifies the British-Korean business relationship enhancing cultural economic and emotional ties between these communities. Also with my experience of owning, operating and establishing a successful small British owned business in Korea, I hope to share that experience with other small businesses and support small Korean/British business development
